Sometimes it’s just a matter of getting the ol’ fanny in gear and making a change. No elbow grease, no negotiating, no power tools… just motivating.
Last summer, I saw this old pull-down map draped over a white van at the flea market and the seller wanted, wait for it, $10. Low and behold… it happened to have our neck of the woods on it! Sold.
Well it’s one of my all time favorite flea market purchases and it’s been sitting in our basement for almost nine months. Ugh.
Not anymore! A pair of sconces and a painting were hanging on this wall before, but this map is BIG (4 x 5′) and the wall over the stove was the best option.
I had to use dry wall anchors and two 3″ screws to mount it, but it seems to be pretty secure. Obviously I won’t be rolling it up or down for an impromptu geography lesson, but Mark has suggested putting a “You Are Here” arrow on it.
The size suits this wall really well and I like having one piece vs. the three smaller ones that were there before. It feels cleaner and more cohesive. I hung it a little higher than I would normally, but I wanted to err on the side of distance from the heat of the stove!
Bottom line, it was about time I motivated and I’m thrilled that I did. I love it. Like ‘first comes love, then comes marriage’ love. Sometimes the simplest of changes makes you feel like you’re in a new and improved room!
