Um, it’s been two years. TWO YEARS since I hit this little button on my first blog post.
Ciburbanity started as a way to dodge the stay-at-home-mom blues, but it’s become SO much more. City + Suburb + Sanity were three words that jumped out at me when I considered this new suburban landscape (pun intended) two years ago. (Did I mention… TWO years?!) But it’s become a little bit of a war cry for me; debatable as it might be… this blog keeps me closer to the ‘sanity’ end of the spectrum. Scary, right… imagine where I’d land without it? 12 months of Ciburbanity comin atcha!
July: Last July marked my first time attending the Haven conference. As dorky as it sounds… this conference brought clarity and brainstorming and camaraderie and direction to this rookie blogger’s agenda. Turns out there ARE other bloggers besides Perez Hilton. (Although I will SO be there if Perez ever comes to Haven.)
August: Flea Market Flip. Technically this finished up in late July, but the high didn’t wear off until August. My bestie Jill and I stepped away from the daily routine of mommy-dom and spent three days with a new group of friends, making stuff, and hanging out at flea markets. Yeah… it was as awesome as it sounds. (Watch our episode by clicking the link right over to the right!)
September: I had a lot of parenting posts this month. 8 months pregnant with two kids heading off to preschool will do that to a gal! Watching Eleanor and Oliver trot off to school, reflecting on how their little personalities are developing and then sharing just a few of the skillz (with a Z) I’ve developed as a mom… let’s just say my maternal wheels were spinning.
November: My Land of Nod Pouf started as a simple challenge for Waverly fabric. BUT… it was featured by amazing sites like Remodelaholic and KnockOff Decor and it was the first time I busted out my sewing machine for something more complicated than, say, panel curtains.
December: Aside from the usual Elf on the Shelf antics which make me chuckle every year, this Christmas marked the first year when our kids were old enough to really “get it.” And for the few years that your children ‘get it’… well, it’s just magic. Whether reading the Polar Express or plotting what kind of cookies to make or watching your daughter draw five dozen pictures for Santa… you just want to bottle it all up. I wrote this after Thanksgiving, but the sentiment remains.
January: After months of this… we finally got to THIS! Our new guest room was finished and ready for visitors. This guest room was the first room that I ‘designed’ from scratch vs. piecemeal like most of the other rooms in the house. And it lit a fire in my DIY-addled belly. See Example A and Example B!
February: Thanks to a finished addition, our house was void-ish of clutter for the first time in 8 months. So I seized the opportunity to walk around and stage each room for a new and improved house tour. Make no mistake, our house NEVER looks like this. Ne-Ver. So these pictures are a little taste of La-La Land for me.
March: Not in a million years did I think lavender would be the color of any room in my home. Well, color me wrong… I finished this fun updated dining room in March and it’s still a room that makes me smile every time I walk through it. (Because the downstairs bathroom is basically “in” the dining room…) Take away? Go for it and try the unexpected.
April: My new blog design! I’d been dragging my feet going for a new blog design for who knows what reason. And I just have a new blogging lease on life. There’s not much more I can say about it all other than “look at me, look at me” but that’s annoying. So forget I just said that. And then give a virtual high five to Sarah from Sweet Theory Designs for putting up with the iota of ‘sanity’ still left in Ciburbanity.
May: #SwapItLikeItsHot– Aside from being my favorite hashtag ever, this little endeavor solidified the wonder that are my blog friends. To anyone not in the blogging community, I can appreciate that this seems like your 5 year-old’s imaginary friend Bobo. I mean how can you have “best” friends with whom you’ve never been in the same room?! These are gals who I chat with pretty much all day every day; about life, blogging, faith, marriage, and… Yahtzee.
June: The horizon is bright, y’all! Haven is coming up in a few weeks and I have some other exciting news planned for the rest of the summer! Big announcement #1… go ahead and click here to see (scroll down). I know… suspense. Big announcement #2? I’m scheduled to have my first live TV stint on morning news here in Connecticut. Yep… I’ve had a paper bag to breathe into since I got the call. I’ll give a full recap, but know that I’m fah-reaking out.
So there you have it! 12 months in the life of this little ol’ blog. The one thing I didn’t mention (yet!) is that not one hot minute of these 365 days of Ciburbanity would be possible without all of you. (Ok… maybe not Louisa… she was coming with or without you, but the rest is thanks to you.) If I didn’t have such sweet and considerate comments or Facebook “likes” or emails from readers around the world, I doubt that any of this would be as satisfying and sanity-producing. You are loyal and complementary and engaged and honest and for that, I thank you for being on this blogging ride with me.
