Disclosure: World Market let me dream big with my plans for this tree house… a huge thanks to them for sponsoring this whimsical post! I’ve included affiliate links for your shopping convenience.
A few weeks ago, I got an email from World Market asking if I’d be interested in coming up with a vision board for a tree house! (I should mention that said tree house belonged to the daughter of actor and heartthrob Gilles Marini. He even shared a snap of his World Market shopping spree on his Instagram.) Never mind the potential client, guys… how often do you get to design something as magical as an actual tree house?! Me neither.
I took to the World Market website and started looking for objects that would fit the bill. We were told that Gilles’ daughter liked pink and girly, but she’s also old enough that I wanted it to be cool and something a teenager might appreciate down the line. After way too much window shopping and coveting, here’s the plan I submitted. Spoiler Alert: they didn’t pick my design…. but man do I want a tree house now!
Seating was important, and one thing I know about kids is that ‘seating’ doesn’t mean just seating. It means something to jump up and down on. Something to climb under. Something to flip over and drape blankets over. This furniture will get dragged around by the arms, so I wanted something durable and sturdy.
Double duty was another priority for me! This is a small tree house (although most of them are I suppose…), so multi-purpose ANYthing was on my hit parade. I love a good table/ ottoman combo.
I’ve mentioned it before in this post about my design philosophy, but I love bringing in a variety of texture and pattern to my spaces. Everyone knows a good tree house needs lots of easy cozy seating. These round Moroccan ottomans are the best. Timeless and comfortable, they’re ideal extra seating. Oliver has a similarly shaped one in his room that he uses when sitting at his Lego table!
For accessories… I mean, people… it’s a TREE house! If you can’t have fun with accessories in a tree house, then where can you? Obvy, a space like this needs a fun rug. These outdoor rugs are perfect: colorful, but still weather resistant.
I also loved the idea of having lots of plants. Ya know…that whole outdoors indoors thing. Picture succulents in these going up the wall?
A portable bar cart helps wrangle art supplies or tea party dishes… And curtains and a fancy chandelier up the style level of this chic newly designed treehouse.
Other items included on my design board:
- string of lights
- marquee lights
- hanging bird garland
- boho white lanterns
- wall clock
- throw blanket
- wicker coffee table/ bench
Here’s the fun part…. I already mentioned Gilles Marini and his family didn’t pick my design, but they DID pick the amazing Kelly Elko’s design… see her post all about it here.
We picked some of the same items so at least I was on the right tracks! Here’s a view of the seating area inside the treehouse… don’t you love all the fun colors?
I love how they brought in lanterns… definitely something I planned to do as well.. take advantage of that wonderful airy feeling of being in a tree house! Great minds.
