Sunday Seven with the Suburban Bees

Psssst… this post *might* contain affiliate links: see my disclosure here.

I went down the rabbit hole with my next Sunday Seven blog AGES ago. At the time, their name was Suburban Bitches, so how could I NOT appreciate their sense of humor and design sense, right? Bright colors. Bold decor choices. Wonderful pattern. Now called Suburban Bees, this blogging duo has it going on. I was THRILLED to meet 1/2 of the Suburban Bees (Tricia) at the Haven Conference this past summer and have been cheering them on ever since! Just this past fall, Tricia made over her living room/ kitchen area as one of the DESIGNERS for the One Room Challenge… that’s big league right there, folks! I can’t show you nearly as much of their blog as I’d like so PLEASE head over and stalk their House Tours, etc. It’s so so SO good!

Question 1: Why did you start blogging?

At the time Erin and I both had little ones under 2. We’d each left our jobs when that third child was born (Erin as a research scientist and me as a internet business owner) and we were craving a creative outlet that didn’t involve dirty diapers or someone constantly calling “mom!!!” We’d connected over our shared love of design and were constantly talking about ways to change up our boring beige builder spec homes into spaces we’d love. One day it just clicked that maybe we could write about our lives as suburban moms with an affinity for design into a blog that someday someone other than our moms might want to read.

Question 2: What has been your proudest moment as a blogger?

We first discovered the One Room Challenge three years ago and we’ve been hooked ever since. We’d always been linking participants but kept dreaming that maybe just maybe one day we’d be make the invited designers list. There’s so much talent out there we never thought it’d really happen. And then – we got that email from Linda of Calling It Home says “Let’s Talk ORC!” It felt like we were moving up to the major leagues! Now to get that room finished!

Question 3: What is the hardest thing about blogging?

The backside of the blog. Ugh. We’re finally getting serious about turning this blog from a hobby to a business and that makes it so much more like a job.

Question 4: What is one thing you wish you’d known early on with your blog?

Everything it takes to really make a blog a business -the amount of time and effort that goes into every aspect of blogging. When we started out I had a very healthy respect for the bloggers that were doing it right – and, now? Now it’s like hero worship – I am literally in awe of all those amazing women who are tearing it up in the blogging world. They are seriously the heavy hitters!

Question 5: What’s one fun fact about you?

Tricia: I grew up in the Army and never slowed down on moving until I was 30. By that point I’d moved 23 times, gone to twelve schools growing up and had lived in four countries & twelve states. Maybe it was all those blank white walls that fostered my love of design!

Question 6: What’s your favorite post (and why)?

The reveal of Erin’s Back in Black dining room. She absolutely nailed her design. It’s a gorgeous room and I loved seeing the incredible response she got to it!

Question 7: What are your blog goals for the future?

To keep growing our blog and keep creating content that our followers want to read. One of the best parts of blogging has been connecting with new and interesting people from all walks of life. I hope we see even more of this in the future!
