Holla back at Heather from Setting For Four. Tell me Heather’s signature style isn’t amazing?! When Carrie from Making Lemonade invited me to join in her Signature Style series with so many awesome other bloggers, I may or may not have hit Reply: “YYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS.” (Sorry, Carrie…) And then I got to virtual dreaming.
The thing about a Signature Style is that it’s pretty much a list of all of your most favorite things. I have a little blurb on my About page that says my design style is “fun frugal repurposed eclectic”. Say what?!
Let’s break that down a bit, shall we?
I like colors.
I like lots of fabric all mixed together: ikat with polka dots with scallops with block print
I like fun.
I like quirky and unexpected (think ceramic rhino heads and juju hats).
I like finding old discarded things and bringing them back to life.
I like happy and bright.
I like texture: metal and fur and feathers and more.
I like the Bachelor Pad. And Game of Crowns. (oh, wait….)
I like Bohemian and ethnic.
I like design with a story.
How does this all come together?
My Signature Style makes me SO happy! Putting together an image of all the things I love was just what I needed. The house is a disaster with kids finishing up summer and starting into fall. I have a basement full of projects that I have YET to get to (including setting up shelves to make some sense out of said basement full of projects…). AND… there’s a toilet in the living room.
So having the chance to dream and imagine was a nice little getaway from the visual chaos all around! It’s also a nice little bit of validation that my Fun Frugal Repurposed Eclectic is in fact how the rooms in this house are beginning to look!
Case in point, our dining room. I love the juxtaposition of the plate wall with that shiny white rhino head…eclectic, much? Not for everyone, but it makes me smile. Also the ombre file cabinet is about as repurposed as they come!
Our playroom has a slide and some fairy lights in it. All the time. All those post Christmas sales came in handy to exemplify some fun repurposing.
The kids room showcases these flea market industrial letters AND this playful stencil wall. Both letters, the frame and the stencil wall were well under $100. That’s pretty good for a frugal decorating scheme.
And finally… The new guest room brings together fabric, texture, and more flea market wall decor. Definitely frugal (construction’s expensive, yo… decorating had to take a hit…), there are times when I think this room might be too far on the eclectic spectrum, and if that chicken crate bedside table’s not repurposed, I don’t know what is!
Gravy? This paint stirrer covered Ikea shelf… Billy, you’re not in Kansas anymore! If you can’t have a little design fun in your dreary dated bathroom, where can you?!
So there ya have it: Fun Frugal Repurposed Eclectic. Too many words? (Too much style? Ha!)
Now comes the fun part…. a POSSE of other amazing bloggers have put together their own signature style posts, so now we can go and get all up in their style business. Are you ready to drool because I’m sending you over to Jenna from Rain On A Tin Roof?! I love her blog and can’t wait to see what she shares for her signature style! Also sharing today are:
Life On Virginia Street, Jennifer Rizzo, and Fieldstone Hill Design.
Do a little twerk for Carrie over at Making Lemonade for putting this whole thing together and a virtual hug for everyone else in this signature style series. All of these great bloggers will be unveiling their signature styles throughout the week!
Also… drum roll here… I’ll be popping in with a Friday post this week because of the B-A-N-A-N-A-S giveaway that Carrie has put together. You will not BELIEVE all the goodies she has in store for you. (I was tempted to go create 96 fake email accounts in order to enter… but I didn’t. Ain’t nobody got time for that.) High five for Carrie!
