Mostly so that I can put another tally in the ‘not a hoarder’ column, I finally got around to decorating this lovely weathered piece of drift wood I grabbed earlier in the summer. Originally I thought about stenciling it or adding an embroidered shape like I did for this project. But, I had this box of roofing nails on hand and I’ve been secretly dying to do something pretty with them. And yes, I’m aware of how dorky that sentence sounds… the things we do for love in blogging land. The ultimate question was what to do. I went literal with our zipcode.
First I printed it out on paper and taped it onto the driftwood.
Second I actually pre-dilled holes… the board was thin and old and the roofing nails are really thick. So I didn’t want to split my beautiful hoarded treasure. To make sure that my nails weren’t too close together, I used the head of a nail as a spacer between each hole I drilled.
Final step was to gently tap in each nail.
I have to be honest, I love the look of the nails, but am wondering whether the gray on gray is a little too similar. A bright wrapped embroidered shape might have been nicer given the gray of the driftwood, but I’m trying to tell myself that there’s a place in this life for a little more neutral…
