Over the weekend, I popped into a dollar store to grab some materials for my Sunday segment up at Good Morning, CT… while I was wandering the aisles, I saw some colored duct tape and one thing lead to another. A patriotic idea was born!
Duct tape probably won’t be the first thing you reach for when planning a formal event, but… for something fun and casual like the 4th of July, it’s the perfect solution! I love the idea of decorating for the holiday, but it can get expensive. And something like the 4th of July is so specific that it’s not something you can recycle for another holiday. Unless you decide on a red, white and blue Christmas tree or something…
Cost? $5. Four rolls of duct tape and a pack of placemats. That’s holiday decor I can get on board with!!
The directions are pretty self explanatory. One color at a time, place strips of duct tape onto each placemat. Then trim the edges. I cut out stars from an old mailing envelope and used spray paint to give the placemats a little fun.
Like I said, I probably won’t use these next time I entertain for the queen, but a gaggle of kids will LOVE using these at our Independence Day picnic! These $5 placemats will wipe clean in case of any rogue popsicle drips and they’re the perfect red, white and blue addition to our patriotic table!
