As bloggers, there are lots of times when we draw inspiration from our colleagues and fellow designers. A living room vignette might influence a mantle layout… a table setting might lead to a coffee table arrangement… a throw pillow could be the springboard for a new bedroom color scheme. Today’s post is NOT one of those moments. I am flat-out copying and stealing from my bestie Bee over at Windgate Lane. She did this EXACT same project a few weeks ago… I asked her permission for this plagiarism, but pop over to see her version just so I don’t feel like quite such a blog snitch.
The REASON for my thievery is a segment I’m prepping for my Saturday spot over at WTNH’s Good Morning, CT. I’m planning to give you a full behind the scenes glimpse into my mornings when I’m on television, but this is a little glimpse of the prep. I enjoy a simple show and tell segment where I share a few ideas within my theme, whether that’s table settings or holiday decorations or indoor kids activities. (Check out all my other appearances at GMCT here!)
This weekend I’m talking about crafts you can pull off with simple household items… i.e. things you can make WITHOUT schlepping to the craft store. Some, I’ve tried… like marbleizing with shaving cream, others I have not… like a washi tape wall treatment. I don’t always post about these projects on the blog since, honestly, it’s easier just to make the project without paying attention to the process shots and the finished glamour shots, etc. This container is just one of the things I’ll be yammering on about Saturday morning. I found this glass container in my stash and wanted to give it a little pattern.
I happen to have an affinity for really cheap bright nail polish with a dirty brand name… and then I remembered Bee’s post. (Did you go over and read it yet?)
When it comes to pattern, I don’t always trust my hand, so I cheated a bit by slipping this polka dot wrapping paper inside the glass as a template.
Then I just went around a filled in all the polka dots!
It’s nearly impossible to take a picture that shows how pretty the little dots look because of the glass, but trust me… this will be perfect for sugar or tea bags or… oh, I don’t know… candy maybe? Just a thought.
What else am I working on for Saturday? You’ll have to tune in to see! (Or click here to “Like” my Facebook page… I always post the link there when I get it back from the studio.)
