You know when you get an idea, and you’re all “That right there is a GREAT idea.” And then you follow through with your idea and it’s out there for all to see and you realize that you can’t un-ring that bell? Oh,and that bell requires shipping and packaging and logistics and accounting and accountability?! No? Well, I have an exciting announcement. I’ve up and gone retail. Yep. RETAIL. Like selling things. To all the people in the land.
Years and years and YEARS ago, a friend and I had an idea for a children’s clothing line. The inspiration was custom illustrated name drawings that I had started doing as gifts. Customized clothing wasn’t in the budget, but using the same technique to illustrate single words WAS something we could work with.
Back when we were ‘in business’ there was no such thing as digital printing. At least nothing that was readily available to two 20-somethings with as much production sense as my daughter, Louisa (the only thing she’s producing is… diapers. Boom.) We printed heat transfers and I brought all our shirts down to a guy in a three-floor walk-up in the floral district of New York City. We hung in there for a year, learned a lot, but our real lives got in the way, and neither one of us was ready to invest what needed to be invested for it to work.
Fast forward and now there’s a little place called Etsy. (There’s also a little page I’ve set up on my blog.) And that original idea for a children’s line is BACK IN BUSINESS! I’ve dusted off my watercolors and have some more products lined up, but for now… check out my SHOP page or head over to Etsy (same things listed in both!) to see all of your options.
I’m selling short/ long sleeved t-shirts and short/ long sleeved cotton onesies. Your choice of illustration is either DREAM, EAT, FUN, LOVE or PEACE. I’m also hoping to list a custom option so I can get back into some illustrated name drawings!
Who knows whether this will gain traction or whether it will go anywhere, so I’m starting small and will slowly grow from here. I’ve already had some great ideas and feedback from my blogging buddies, but I’d LOVE to know what information you’re looking for and what might turn your head if you noticed these items come across your computer screen!
I’d appreciate your help spreading the word! It’s getting to be holiday season so why not share my Etsy shop with friends who might like some sweet watercolor t-shirts or onesies! And stay tuned for more additions to the Ciburbanity Shop!
P.S. Martha’s pretty fired up about the whole thing… and it’s not lost on me that Louisa’s belly BARELY fits into her “EAT” onesie…
