Our front door has come a long way from our first walk through.
A front entrance is your home’s bread and butter and the first chance you have to really impress folks with your witty approach to design and your colorful take on all things decorating. Or at least it’s your first chance to make people cock their heads and wonder what in the hell you’ve been pinning on Pinterest. The first things we did were paint the door, change the numbers, pull out the filthy leaking skylight and bring in a real walkway rather than the gravel spill-over from the driveway
I pinned a few images that I liked, but nothing was perfect. Our ‘porch’ area is small. Like we’d never sit out there with a mojito and enjoy the minivan parked in the driveway. But it is big enough to look a little bare when nothing is there. Until recently, we had some planters, but because we lost so many boxwoods this winter, I moved the planters out into the open and filled them with flowers to replace the dead bushes.
I also had this sweet little bench that I grabbed from the local Restore to work with.
So I’m working on a few little projects that might jazz up our front porch area without it seeming too cluttered or ‘designed’. First stop, the interweb and my boyfriend Craig. $30 and I snagged this cool chair.
I’m in love with it… it makes me think of this guy I spotted in the Serena and Lily catalog for $295.
It’s a little big for the space, but for now it’s a start. (I figured I’d bring it inside and spray paint it a high gloss white, but for the time being it’s filling that corner nicely out front.)
As mentioned earlier, I have some other ideas that I’ll share with you, but for now I’m just enjoying my new chair. I might even touch up the chevron welcome mat with a new improved version! Simple pleasures, folks. Simple pleasures. Consider this a work in progress.
