You know what’s great to get the day after Christmas? Christmas lights. Lots and lots of 50% off Christmas lights. Ever since I saw this post over at Nest of Posies, I’ve been in awe of the magic of icicle lights running across a ceiling. Did anyone else used to lay on their back looking up through the branches of the Christmas tree and just dream? Those little twinkling lights get me every time. (So does the twinkling smile of this beauty.)
We don’t have any obvious hallways for icicle lights, but we do have these exposed beams in our playroom. What better place to fairy-fy than the kids’ playroom, right?
At 50% off, I snagged 6 boxes of icicle lights at Home Depot the day after Christmas, an extension cord, and a cord channel like this.
I strung the lights back and forth between the center two beams by nailing little brad nails every 18″ or so, and then ran the extension cord down the sloped ceiling through the adhesive cord channel.
The icicle lights from Home Depot hung a little longer than I expected, so I had to spend a little time folding over the longer strands and running them across the top of my icicle light web.
At some point, Eleanor brought over her art center bench and lay down just gazing up at the lights. Maybe she’ll grow up fantasizing about fairy lights and line her kids’ whole ceiling. A mom can dream.
I love the way these reflect in the window and the sweet light it casts over the room at night. I’d like to think the magic of the fairy lights actually makes my children love each other that much more. That and the tub of lollipops I use to bribe them each day.
Go get your fairy on, folks!
