My amazing godmother lives up near Newport, RI and has a beach laden with the most incredibly smooth and picturesque stones. (Like she’s had to ask people not to remove wheelbarrows full in the past… now that’s some rocks!)
I’ve had a bag of these rocks tucked away for months and finally got around to adding some of the decoration I envisioned when I lugged them all home.
We all doodle, but usually these doodles are relegated to the margins of a binder or the memo pad by our telephone. Something about moving the doodles to these stones elevates them to beautifully simple and elegant design. Case in point, these images I pulled from Pinterest:
I blatantly copied most of the inspiration pieces since this was a nice mindless Sunday afternoon craft project. I have plenty more rocks so maybe one day, I’ll actually bring my own flair to some more decoration.
Some of my rocks were a pale gray and others were a darker charcoal… I experimented with both a white Sharpie marker and a black Sharpie marker. I didn’t mind the more rustic, natural appearance, but a coat of sealant would prevent fading and add the hint of a sheen that would actually bring out the luster in these rocks (you know how beautiful beach rocks are when they’re wet from the ocean and then you get them home and they lose that wonder?).
I can imagine a huge glass bowl filled with these rocks. The rocks alone would look amazing, but the added little design element of the doodles adds a touch of awesome.
