Another day another mood board.
This go around, it’s for our dining room… I can’t say that we use the dining room like ever, but I still like the idea of one. Here’s where our dining rooms stands right now: when we bought the house, the dining room was being used as an office space. Complete with one blocked off window and adjacent bathroom.
We immediately opened up the window (So. Much. Sunlight.) and added a consignment store pendant light among other things.
Here’s what I plan to keep:
- The chairs. I recovered a set of Duncan Phyfe-ish dining room chairs with black and white fabric.
- The black and white FLOR carpet tiles. They were grabbed on clearance and I like them as an easy jumping off point.
- The pendant light. This was a consignment purchase and I love the whimsy of it, crooked and all.
And that’s about it.
So… here’s what I get to change! Wall color. The current wall color was chosen to match an old rug so doesn’t fit in with anything really. I’m thinking a lavender… I know. Could be weird.
Artwork. We’ve already removed the two maritime paintings that used to hang in the dining room. Passed down from my grandmother, they’re just not our style… I have a few ideas for wall decor. The painting is similar to one I grabbed at the flea market…
Small furniture: right now, we have a tiny little table under the window that’s a surface on which to display things, but provides NO storage whatsoever. It would be nice to get a buffet in there somewhere just to help with our old home’s lack of storage!
Window treatments. There are none right now, but bringing in some fabric could add a layer and soften the space a bit.
Wall details. After watching post after post of wainscoting and chair rails and board and baten, I’m torn. Oh so torn. But kinda eager to try it out!
The table. I love the table my folks gave me, but I wonder if something similar to this would lighten the space…
Who knows when we’ll get around to this, but it will be fun to start from ‘scratch’ in a new room. It’s always easier to envision an entire space than it is to slowly piece together an existing scheme…. Or that’s what I’ll tell myself!
Any fun projects or designs you all have been playing around with? Thoughts on lavender? How does it affect your appetite?
