Sometimes the simplest of updates can pack a punch. I picked up these two basic aqua shelves at a church thrift store for under $20. They’re the perfect size to go on either side of his changing table and they allow for just the right amount of diaper/ toy storage.
But… they’re not quite the right color. With ANOTHER day of rain hampering my plans to finish some spray paint projects, I finally grabbed these guys for a little coordination. There are a lot of colors in that room to choose from, but I ultimately decided to keep it simple. Sort of.
A few coats of high gloss white for the outside. I like using high gloss whenever the kids are involved as it just seems easier to clean… it’s a little fussier going down and might take an extra coat, but so far the sheen is worth it in the Windex long run.
For the two inside shelves, I reached for the leftover paint I had from the changing table. You know how to paint so not much explanation needed, but the simple change in color makes a big difference, right?
A better designer than I (me?) might have suggested sticking with either the turquoise from the changing table or the pale green from the nearby bookshelf, but these kids rooms change so often that I wanted a piece that felt cool all on its own without any adjacent pieces to relate to. I love the look of bookshelves with a bold background, and these are no exception!
