Last week, I asked my Facebook followers (are you one of them? Hint hint.) who was the hardest person to shop for on their list. It was a close tie between husband/ dad and mom. I’m NO expert, but here’s a list of some gizmos and gadgets that I’ve given Mark in the past that he still uses and/ or really likes! Leave a comment with anything you’ve had success with since my shopping is FAR from over!
Also… it seems lame that this is the one, but today’s post is #500 for me! What a milestone! I think. I thought about coming up with something more poignant but I have pine cones and Christmas ornaments coming out my nose and the rest of the week is chalk full of inspiration, so for #500… get your shop on!
I’m a broken record when it comes to flannel: I love it. But it also looks so cute on a guy, so there’s that! These colors are my favorite, but Duluth has a million other options if this scheme isn’t your cup of tea.
I got this for Mark a couple of years ago and it gets used EVERY day. It’s an easy cord free way to make seltzer water. It also comes with about a million flavors that you can add to the seltzer to make it delicious: cola flavor, cherry, lemon/ lime… and on and on. It comes with a canister that you simply turn in at specific retailers when empty (we bring ours to Bed Bath and Beyond), but it lasts a while so we’ve only replaced one or two?
Mark wears these for everything from walking to the train in the morning to chopping down our Christmas tree. They’re warm, classy, and durable. So warm weather trifecta.
This ‘system’ might not be for everyone, but in the 10 years that I’ve known Mark, he’s gone from wallet to wallet to money clip to rubber bands and finally he’s landed on this. It keeps his most frequent credit cards handy and the money clip holds whatever cash he might have. It fits in his pocket and is easy to access. It also avoids the problem of the George Costanza wallet.
This is in our junk drawer and gets used to replace every single battery in every single toy among other things. It comes with 4 small screw drivers and a light. Also… it’s super cheap so a handy little set to tuck away.
With smart phones in every pocket, you’d think a weather station would be redundant, but we have one on our kitchen counter and I love it. I glance at it when I’m getting the kids dressed for school… how many hats and gloves to we need to put on, do I need to pull my plants in already… you get the drill. The one we have includes a 5 day forecast which I LOVE, but I couldn’t find anything similar that was still for sale…
Another junk drawer staple. This is for all the little household things that don’t need your mega drill. Trust me… there are a ton.
Just for fun! Mark doesn’t wear these as often as I’d like, but when he does, Oliver smiles from ear to ear. Nothing like a caped super hero coming home from work!
Definitely more of a ‘luxury item’ this electric corkscrew isn’t a necessity, but man it’s fun. You’ll also get to your Pinot in under 10 seconds which is nothing to scoff at.
This will bring out the frantic competition in anyone… divide into teams and pass around the catchphrase unit. Get your teammates to guess the catchphrase and then pass it to the next person… whoever is left holding the game when the time runs out loses. Sounds simple enough, but it so much silly fun!
11. Lego Cuff Links
Even the best-dressed men can have a sense of humor, right?
I gave these to Mark last year and he hasn’t stopped wearing them… his first pair of slippers, and he’s a convert. Comfy, warm… masculine cozy.
13. Car Charger
Mark’s always running around and charging his phone doesn’t always happen… “my phone died” could be a lame parental drinking came for us. At least with this car charger, there’s no excuse on the weekend when we’re both out an about!
14. Half-Zip Sweater
These half zips are great… casual enough for a weekend, but nice enough to throw on over a collared shirt for something more ‘dressy casual’… there’s such a thing, right? I gave Mark a similar one for Christmas last year, and he’s said a number of times how much he likes it! (And he DEFinitely doesn’t say that about all the gifts I give him…)
