Summer and bubbles go together like mac and cheese… wine and the witching hour… lycra and all you can eat BBQ. My favorite part about this bubble activity is that it came together in five minutes.
A beautiful sunny morning, energy is building… what’s a mom to do? Swing for the fences and hope to kill 30 minutes, that’s what!
Materials are SO simple (as always):
- plastic bottles. I raided our recycling bin
- socks/ rags/ towels
- tape/ rubber band/ tie… basically anything that can be used to “secure”
- dish soap
Cut the bottom off your bottle and slide the sock/ towel/ rag over the top. (I used some of Mark’s unmatched socks…) Use your tape/ rubber band/ tie to secure the sock/ towel/ rag from sliding off the bottle.
Grab a container from the kitchen that won’t fit your child’s foot (don’t ask…). Squirt some dish soap into the container and add a bit of water. Dip the sock covered bottle into the soapy water and… let your child blow.
It is SO cool how easily this works. We added some drops of food coloring to the sock to make our bubble snakes fancier.
The only thing to be aware of… we had a couple mouth-fulls of soap. Remind your child to take their mouth AWAY from the bottle when they take a breath or else you’ll be scampering inside for some milk or juice or water STAT.
Next time your kids are hanging from the ceiling fans, go ahead and reach for your recycling bin since chances are pretty good this #WednesdayPlayday bubble activity will get them down from the ceiling.
