This is one of my favorite kids’ activities hands down. (I mentioned it here when we were evacuated for Hurricane Sandy.) Well we’ve had our fair share of
rage snow days recently and after a stint with a Christmas present volcano, I set this up for the big kids. Time suck? 45 minutes. Whasssssuuuuupppp!
- Baking Soda (you’ll want a giant box… not those little ones you stick in your fridge to pretend and deodorize)
- Food Coloring
- small ramekins/ tupper ware
- shallow baking sheet
Sprinkle an ample amount of baking soda onto your baking sheet. Fill your ramekins with vinegar and add food coloring. Using the droppers, drop the vinegar onto the baking soda and watch it bubble and fizz.
I used primary colors and suggested the kids explore how the colors mix. I think they just squirted as much vinegar onto the baking soda as they could.
