On my daily Craigslist trawling (“Furniture- By Owner- With Image- Less Than $75“) I came across this sweet side table. Another side table you ask? Why yes… another. The new bedroom in the addition is slotted to have 2 twin beds and I thought this might be a fun table to go in the middle of the aforementioned pair of beds.
I picked it up for $20 and brought it home for a little spit shine. Or some chalk paint. Whichever complemented the decor best… But, once I saw the table next to some other furniture, it was clear that this guy was cute, but not someone you’d actually want to date. In other words, it wouldn’t work well as a bedside table between two twin beds. However… it would be great up in Martha’s room next to the twin beds that we have up there! New plan of attack. Martha’s room is what we currently use for guests and it’s bright and cheerful and a good spot for a dainty round side table.
I wanted to be creative with this little table but also bring in some of the colors from around the room. Lucky for me, Antibes Green chalk paint fit my design docket. (I love me some chalk paint: see here, here and here…)
Since curious minds want to know, this is how one coat of chalk paint looks… would actually be lovely if you wanted a more antiqued/ aged look.
I’m all the ‘age’ I need around here these days so I painted a second coat and then focused on the top for a little decoration. I found the center point with the help of a straight edge and drew my lines.
With a steady hand and a little more chalk paint (Paris Grey and Provence Blue) I filled in my pattern.
Eleanor photobomb (in her PJs at 3:00, natch) …
Before I waxed the paint, I sanded it down ever so slightly to bring out the green in places and to soften the pattern lines a bit as well.
Dorky furniture sidenote: I always put these felt circles on the feet of my furniture to protect the floors… it also makes it that much easier to move the furniture around which I’m prone to do.
Here it is in the space in front of a nice sunny window (again… how to people take these pictures?!).
It will be perfect when people come to stay and they need a little place to stash their reading glasses or their phone before bed.
Now excuse me while I double check my carry on bag, kiss my kids goodbye AND LEAVE FOR HAVEN!!!
