This post is written in collaboration with Cost Plus World Market to celebrate their amazing fall line and their grand opening in Hyannis, MA. Clearly I’m a BIG fan, but obvy all opinions and hyperactive online shopping are all my own.
For those of you who follow me on social media, you’ve heard me mention that I’m planning to take on our outside shed for the One Room Challenge in a few weeks. This is NOT a small project. In fact… this might be a fool’s endeavor, because it is a LARGE project. Lots of the work will be stuff like painting and organizing and purging. The current state of the space is what I like to call “glamorous hoard”.
When we were redoing our barn, the shed became the holding area and there is still a TON of stuff for me to negotiate and make sense of. BUT… because I’m a dreamer, I’ve been thinking lots and lots and lots about how I want that space to function. I need it to be a workspace, office space, mom cave, craft storage and photo studio. SO once I clear out and make sense of the “stuff,” accessories and furniture will really help bring it all together. Which leads me to the point of this post… brainstorming.
Cost Plus World Market is one of the first places I look for furniture and accessories when plotting a space because 1) their stuff is ALWAYS so affordable and 2) their products are unique and fun and colorful and align so well with my eclectic style. (See how I used them in our new dining room.) Like I mentioned… this shed space is tricky because it’s outdoors AND it’s RUSTIC. By that I mean, there’s a strong possibility that mice will be cruising around the space and the concrete floor may or may not have leftover lawnmower oil on it. I need items that are comfortable and… durable. Pretty and… sturdy.
Ways to bring in Durable and Pretty Decor
Here’s my Cost Plus World Market WISH LIST for ye old shed…lots of these are part of their fun fall guide. I’m hoping to snag some items next week at the Hyannis store… see all the details at the end of this post! (This post contains affiliate links for your convenience… full source list at the end of this post!)
I don’t envision a TON of seating, but I’d love to have a pair of chairs to use if need be and to make the space seem a little more inviting. I’ll also love a stool or two to tuck under the work table. These guys are limited in their frills, low in stature and appear to be pretty sturdy.
This shed will be predominately storage. Storage storage storage. But… lots of different types of storage. Craft storage will be small and fussy… think craft paints and washi tape and glitter. Tool storage is hopefully taken care of with the tool bench Mark gave me for Christmas. But I’ll also have scrap wood and paint and other ‘messy’ things. I like these items because obviously the materials are durable, but they also have flexibility because of their size AND the casters on the shelving.
The shed is dark. So not ideal for things like DIY Blogging. There are some small windows on either side so I’ll try to set up any photography stills here, but the back of the shed will need some light as will the areas over my work table. Again… these are pretty basic lights that won’t require a ton of dusting, etc…. they also can be moved fairly easy to illuminate different corners as my needs come up!
This shed probably won’t be up to Air BnB standards, but I do want to bring in some ‘comfort’ items… Think coffee. Drinks. Basics. Because the floor is concrete, I’m trying to keep the breakable items to a minimum so plastic and wood whenever possible!
Finally… what blog space would be complete without a little decor and fun?! I’ve picked out some faves just to make the space a little lighter, a little brighter. Prettier! The throw rug is basically plastic so I can just hose it down… I have those nesting tables in our family room and the kids use them as tunnels, for seats… you name it. And those succulents? Definitely fake, but I love the idea of them bringing some greenery into the space.
